FAQs for the Phases Explorer

❓ FAQs for the Phases Explorer Section#

Below are clear, complete answers to the most common questions customers ask when using Phases Explorer, one of the most critical engineering and production modules in Fabritec.

1️⃣ What is the purpose of Phases Explorer?#

Phases Explorer is the central workspace where all production data for a phase is prepared before manufacturing begins.
It allows you to:
Import and validate BOM items
Attach drawings
Manage revision files
Approve revisions for production
Generate BOM reports
All downstream modules — Routing, Production, QC, Tracking, and Shipping — depend on the data finalized in Phases Explorer.

2️⃣ What is the difference between Revisions, Final Items, and Sub Items tabs?#

TabPurpose
RevisionsCreate, review, and approve revisions. Contains raw imported data.
Final ItemsShows only the approved items that will be used for production.
Sub ItemsDisplays components of assemblies (e.g., built-up beams, trusses).
Items appear in Final Items only after the revision is Approved.

3️⃣ Can I edit a revision after it is approved?#

No.
Once a revision is Approved, it becomes locked to ensure data integrity.
To make changes, you must create a new revision.

4️⃣ What happens to previous revisions when a new one is approved?#

Older revisions remain visible for history and traceability.
Only the latest approved revision is sent to production and used by Routing, QC, and Tracking.

5️⃣ How do I import items correctly from Excel or CSV?#

You should:
1.
Choose a matching schema (column mapping).
2.
Upload your file.
3.
Review detected items.
4.
Fix any validation errors before saving.
If your file has a different format, create a new custom schema once and reuse it.

6️⃣ What does “New / Updated / Deleted” mean after importing items?#

Fabritec compares your imported file with previous revisions:
New → Items added for the first time
Updated → Same mark but modified properties (length, weight, etc.)
Deleted → Items removed compared to the previous revision
This helps track engineering changes clearly.

7️⃣ Do I need to upload drawings for every item?#

While production can begin without drawings, it is highly recommended to upload or link drawings for:
Production clarity
QC reference
Tracking
Documentation
Many factories consider drawings mandatory for fabrication.

8️⃣ Why are some items showing “No Matching Found” in the Drawings step?#

Common reasons:
File names do not match item marks
Drawings were not uploaded yet
Different naming conventions
Fix by renaming files or manually linking the correct drawing.

9️⃣ What is the purpose of the “Add Files” step, and what should I upload?#

This step organizes all supporting documents for the revision.
Typical file types include:
PDF drawings
DWG / DXF files
Calculation sheets
QC documents
Technical specifications
It acts as a document vault for each revision.

🔟 Who can approve or reject a revision?#

Only users with the appropriate permissions (often Planning Manager, Technical Office Lead, or Engineering Reviewer) can approve or reject revisions.

11️⃣ What happens after a revision is Approved?#

Once approved:
Items move into Final Items
Routes become applicable
Production and QC can start
Tracking timelines activate
BOM reports become final
Approval is the gateway to production.

12️⃣ Can I delete a revision? What are the conditions?#

A revision can be deleted only if:
It is not approved
It has no dependent production/QC data
It is not linked to active routes
Approved revisions cannot be deleted for traceability reasons.

13️⃣ Why don’t my imported items appear under Final Items?#

Because the revision is still in Add Items, Under Review, or In Progress status.
Items appear in Final Items only after approval.

14️⃣ Can I download or print a BOM directly from Phases Explorer?#

Yes.
The BOM Report button exports a clean, formatted PDF or Excel containing:
Item list
Lengths, weights, quantities
Material, profile, and paint info
Totals
Perfect for procurement, production planning, and technical reviews.

15️⃣ How do Sub Items work and when should I use them?#

Sub Items represent components within an assembly, such as:
Webs and flanges of built-up beams
Members inside a truss
Bolted components
They help maintain accurate weight calculations, QC checks, and production tracking at a granular level.
