Categories

šŸ—‚ļø Categories#

Categories allow you to group and organize items and components into clear, manageable families.
They help Fabritec understand what type of materials or structures you are producing and support more accurate planning, routing, and reporting.
Using Categories correctly ensures:
Clean organization of all imported items
Accurate application of Routes
Clear capacity calculations
Better analytics across buildings and phases
Faster filtering and searching in all project screens

What Are Categories?
A Category is a group of related steel items, such as Built-up beams, Hot Rolled profiles, Trusses, or Purlins.
Every item you import into Fabritec belongs to one Category.
Categories are used throughout the system to:
Apply the correct Routes
Calculate monthly production capacity
Organize BOM items
Structure reports and dashboards
Distinguish between item types in production and QC
Typical examples include:
Built-up
Hot Rolled
Trusses
Purlins
Cold Forming

šŸ“‚ Where to Find Categories#

Navigate to:
Production Setup → Categories
The Categories page shows:
Name
Weight Capacity (per month)
Actions (Edit / Delete)
You can also:
Export categories to Excel or PDF
Search or filter by any column

āž• Add a New Category#

Click New Category to open the creation window.

Fill in the following fields:

1ļøāƒ£ Name (Required)#

The name of the category you want to create.
Examples:
Built-up
Hot Rolled
Trusses
Purlins
Cold Forming
Keep names simple and consistent with your factory standards.

2ļøāƒ£ Capacity per Month in Weight (Optional)#

Defines how much tonnage your factory can produce per month for this category.
This helps with:
Planning
Load balancing
Resource allocation
Production forecasting
Examples:
Built-up: 600 tons/month
Hot Rolled: 1200 tons/month
Units follow your company measurement settings (kg / t / lb).
You can modify units using global Preferences. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

3ļøāƒ£ Description (Optional)#

Short explanation of what the category includes.
Examples:
Built-up: fabricated beams, columns, frames
Hot Rolled: standard profiles such as I-beams and channels
Trusses: roof trusses and space frames
Adding descriptions helps all users distinguish categories clearly.

šŸ“ Editing or Deleting a Category#

In the Actions column:
āœļø Edit → Modify name, capacity, or description
šŸ—‘ļø Delete → Remove the category
āš ļø Categories cannot be deleted if they are linked to existing BOM items or Routes.

⭐ Best Practices#

Use clear, consistent naming for all Categories
Set realistic monthly capacity for better planning accuracy
Group similar item types together
Keep the number of categories manageable
Add descriptions to help new team members understand each group
Ensure every imported item belongs to the correct Category
