Below are the most common questions users ask when configuring Production Stages, along with clear and practical answers.
1️⃣ What are Production Stages and why do I need them?#
Production Stages represent each step in your manufacturing workflow (e.g., Cutting, Welding, Painting). They are essential because they determine how items move through:
Routes
Tracking & progress updates
QC checkpoints
Dashboards and productivity reports Without well-defined stages, production cannot be tracked accurately.
2️⃣ How many stages should I create for my factory?#
You can create as many stages as your workflow requires.
Some factories use simple stages (Cutting → Welding → Painting).
Others use detailed stages (Cutting → Fit-Up → Welding → Grinding → Painting). Choose a level of detail that reflects your real process and supports accurate planning and QC oversight.
3️⃣ Can I change the order of stages after I create them?#
Yes, you can reorder stages anytime. However:
Changing the order affects all Routes using those stages.
Ongoing production may see updated sequences. Always review your Routes before reordering important stages.
4️⃣ What happens if I delete a stage that is already used in routes or items?#
Fabritec does not allow deleting a stage that is currently used in Routes or assigned to items. This prevents breaking workflows and protects production history. You will need to remove or modify those dependencies before deleting.
5️⃣ How does the “Requires Inspection” option affect production?#
If enabled, the item cannot move to the next stage until QC approves it. This is used for critical steps like:
Welding
Fit-Up
Final Coating
Galvanizing It ensures quality and compliance before production continues.
6️⃣ When should I enable the “Outsourcing” toggle for a stage?#
Use this option when the step is performed outside your factory. Examples:
Galvanizing
Powder coating
Heat treatment Outsourced stages appear differently in Tracking, reports, and capacity planning.
7️⃣ How does the Default Duration field impact planning and reporting?#
Default Duration is used to:
Estimate workload
Build planning timelines
Display expected durations on dashboards
Improve stage-based productivity insights Accurate durations lead to better scheduling and resource allocation.
8️⃣ Does the stage color affect anything besides visuals?#
Color is purely visual. It helps operators and managers quickly recognize stages in:
Tracking timelines
Dashboards
Progress bars It does not influence logic or workflow.
9️⃣ How do stages connect to Workstations, Labour, and Routes?#
Production Stages are the foundation of:
Routes (define the sequence of stages)
WorkStations (each workstation is linked to a stage)
Labour (workers are linked to the stages they can perform) Updating a stage affects all these areas.
🔟 Can different items follow different stage sequences?#
Yes. Each item’s workflow depends on the Route assigned to its Category or Mark. This allows beams, columns, accessories, or custom items to follow unique sequences.
11️⃣ If a stage requires inspection, who is allowed to approve it?#
Only users with QC permissions — such as:
Quality Control Inspector
QC Supervisor
Managers with inspection privileges QC permissions are defined under Roles and Production Access settings.
12️⃣ Can two different stages have the same name?#
Technically yes, but it is not recommended. Duplicate names can cause confusion in tracking, reporting, and route creation. Use clear, unique names for best results.
13️⃣ What if we outsource only part of a stage, not the entire step?#
If only part of the step is outsourced, it’s best to create a dedicated stage such as:
“Surface Prep (Internal)”
“Galvanizing (Outsourced)” This keeps tracking accurate and preserves production clarity.
14️⃣ Will changing a stage affect historical data or previous projects?#
Renaming a stage does not alter historical logs. However, changing:
Order
Inspection requirement
Outsourcing status can affect current and future items. Historical production data remains intact.
15️⃣ Can I create stages in multiple languages (Arabic/English)?#
Yes. Fabritec supports bilingual stage names. Many factories use labels like:
“Welding / اللحام”
“Painting / الدهان” Use whichever format makes operations clear for your teams.
